Mega-rich MAGA official Scott Bessent mocked for saying he is "actually a soybean farmer" - LGBTQ Nation
"You did mention that China has been boycotting American soybeans, and American farmers have really suffered,"
"Well, Martha, in case you don't know it, I'm actually a soybean farmer, so I have felt this pain too,"
"I think we have addressed the farmers' concerns, and I'm not going to get ahead of the president."
"Watching a guy who's worth a half a billion dollars cosplay as if he's a soybean farmer is really, really insulting to the soybean farmers in Wisconsin and throughout the Midwest,"
Scott Bessent said he is "actually a soybean farmer" while discussing China's boycott of American soybeans and negotiations with China. Bessent owns roughly $25 million in North Dakota corn and soy farmland that he rents to others and reportedly earns about $1 million a year in rent. The American Farm Bureau Federation reports that 39% of U.S. farmland is leased. Public reaction included mockery on social media and criticism from Rep. Mark Pocan, who called Bessent's claim insulting to Midwestern soybean farmers. Images of a former mansion sold for over $20 million circulated alongside the criticism.
