Vitiello: Modric trained with a mask and wants to be called up for Genoa-Milan
Luka Modric trained with the AC Milan squad at Milanello and wants to be included in the squad for Genoa-Milan. After surgery for a fractured cheekbone was reported to end his season, he returned wearing a protective mask and participated with the team. He chose not to travel just to watch from the stands and is willing to start on the bench. He feels physically fine aside from needing the mask and may be able to get some minutes. Massimiliano Allegri is expected to provide further updates at his press conference. If he does not play tomorrow, he is likely available for the match against Cagliari.
"Luka Modric trained with the AC Milan squad at Milanello today and according to a report, he wants to be part of the squad for Genoa-Milan. One thing has become very clear throughout the course of the season: despite his age, Modric is one of the players with the most motivation and willingness in the league. Week in and week out, he has made himself available to the team, playing an instrumental part."
"Just three weeks ago, not even that, the veteran underwent surgery due to a fractured cheekbone and it was immediately reported that his season was over. However, as reported by Antonio Vitiello this afternoon, the player himself has other ideas. Today, he wore a protective mask at Milanello and was able to play with the rest of the team."
"As opposed to travelling with the squad for Genoa-Milan to sit in the stands, Modric wants to be part of the squad, even if it means starting on the bench. Physically, apart from having to wear the mask, he feels absolutely fine and he might be able to get some minutes. Massimiliano Allegri will soon host his press conference (at the time of writing) and will surely shed some more light on the situation."
"If not for tomorrow's game, he will for sure be available for the game against Cagliari, which is very commendable as he could have been preparing for the World Cup instead."
