Marco Simone nearly rejoined AC Milan in 2018 under Yonghong Li's Chinese ownership to start a B-team project that never materialised after Elliott Management took control. Milan launched the 'Futuro' development project in summer 2024 by creating a Serie C team. The first season ended in relegation to the fourth tier following a play-off defeat.
