Serie A boss lambasts Rabiot: 'Respect the money'
"like all soccer players who earn millions, forgets that he's paid to carry out a function, which is playing soccer,"
"This is done to strengthen the product, not weaken it."
"There's all this talk about schedules and players' well-being, but this all seems really absurd. It's crazy to travel so far for a game between two Italian squads in Australia. We'll have to adapt, like always."
"completely crazy."
UEFA granted permission for AC Milan to play a Serie A home match against Como in Perth, Australia, in February. Milan midfielder Adrien Rabiot criticized the 20-hour flights and six-hour time difference as completely crazy and said financial deals and league visibility are being placed ahead of players. Serie A CEO Luigi De Siervo said high-earning players should accept such sacrifices and argued that staging matches abroad strengthens the product, citing other sports that travel internationally. San Siro will be unavailable after the Milan-Cortina Olympics opening ceremony, forcing the relocated fixture. UEFA also allowed Barcelona to play in Miami.
