AC Milan signed striker Niclas Füllkrug on an initial loan from West Ham United on January 2, after weeks of interest and positive talks. The striker trained at Milanello since Boxing Day following clearance from West Ham and was included in the squad for the match against Cagliari, making a substitute cameo and improving after a rusty start. Füllkrug was born in Hanover on 9 February 1993 and developed at local clubs including TuS Ricklingen and Sportfreunde Ricklingen before joining Werder Bremen's academy at 14. He progressed to senior football with Werder Bremen II, spent a loan at Greuther Fürth where he scored a rapid hat-trick in November 2013, then suffered a ligament rupture and later moved to Nürnberg, with Werder retaining a buy-back clause. He scored 18 goals in 59 appearances across two competitions before returning to his hometown.
