Moretto: 'By Christmas' - Milan close to key contract extension and other renewals
"Milan's defensive improvement is there for all to see. Twelve months ago, after 10 games, the Rossoneri had conceded 13 goals and only kept a clean sheet twice. In 2025-26 they've conceded seven, four of which came at San Siro against newly promoted sides Cremonese and Pisa. Part of the reason for this is down to Tomori's rejuvenation. The Englishman was a key player in the Scudetto-winning season of 2021-22, but last season - under both Fonseca and Conceiçao - he was up and down in terms of form."
"Moretto spoke in a video on Fabrizio Romano's YouTube channel about various topics related to possible transfer business, but he also touched on a renewal that Milan are close to completing. "I told you about a possible contract extension for Tomori. His contract expires in 2027, and negotiations for his renewal are progressing well and quickly. There's great optimism. Milan expect to close the deal by Christmas, as they do for the renewals of other players," he said."
AC Milan have shown clear defensive improvement, conceding seven goals in 2025-26 compared with 13 after 10 games last season, and keeping more clean sheets. A significant factor has been Fikayo Tomori's rejuvenation, with the English centre-back returning to reliable form after an inconsistent previous season. Massimiliano Allegri has made Tomori a fixed pillar in the right-sided role of a three-man defence, and Tomori has started eight of 10 league games. Negotiations on a contract extension are underway; Tomori's current deal runs until 2027 and Milan expect to finalise renewal talks by Christmas amid optimism.
