Despite the pain of losing his position, Spalletti has no regrets about accepting the role when offered. He emphasized the duty to respond to the national team's call without hesitation, regardless of personal circumstances.
"It never goes away. It robs me of sleep, it conditions me in everything because the thought is always there," he told La Repubblica, as quoted by Football Italia.
"No [he does not have regrets], because the national team doesn't ask, it calls. You don't choose whether to accept. There is no logical reflection to make. When the national team calls you, you have to make yourself fully available."
