"Leão does not know how to play with his back to the goal, he does not know how to protect the ball. He has no idea about soccer, he doesn't know how to kick with either the right or the left foot. He only has speed and that is only effective when the balls is thrown forward. What really bothers me is that a phenomenon is created. But it's not his fault, it's Milan's, who pay him €8million a year."
"Every year, at the beginning of the season, Leão always gives the same interview in which he says that this will be his year and that he will do well with the new coach. He did it with [Paulo] Fonseca, with [Sergio] Conceição and now with [Max] Allegri. At the age of 26, I had already signed for Real Madrid. Leao doesn't score goals or give assists, but above all, he doesn't know how to shoot."
Antonio Cassano launched a withering attack on Rafael Leão, saying the Portugal forward lacks fundamental technical skills and mainly offers pace. Leão has made only two substitute appearances this season after a month-long calf injury absence and missed a key chance in a goalless draw with Juventus. Cassano argued Leão cannot play with his back to goal, protect the ball, or shoot effectively with either foot, and suggested Milan have overvalued him while paying €8million a year. Leão appears ill-suited to Max Allegri's 3-5-2 and has been named in Portugal's squad for upcoming World Cup qualifiers.
