GdS: 'Milan believe' - Modric to make renewal decision before 2026 World Cup
"After his most recent goal for AC Milan, the talking points surrounding Luka Modric revolve around his future and when it will be decided. When he arrived, Milan signed Modric on a one-year deal, with the option to extend for another season if all parties agreed. Within the first few months, if not sooner, the Rossoneri were certain that they wanted him to stay. However, the Croatian's point of view has never been so clear. In fact, it has always seemed like it would be later in the season for his decision."
"It is not to say that Modric is unhappy, he loves life in Milano, he is playing great football and the Diavolo have become infinitely more competitive since he arrived. However, he is not getting any younger and the World Cup was supposed to be part of his decision. However, this morning's edition of Gazzetta dello Sport (seen below) states that a decision will be made in May."
"Milan have 'pushed with all their might' and believe that there is a chance to stay, especially as they are so close to Champions League qualification and not out of the Scudetto race. Though the decision, as it always has, rests on Modric. In the meantime, the management will keep trying to convince him to stay, and they believe that they can give him a more competitive environment with the Champions League qualification. It is not impossible, but challenging, certainly."
Modric signed a one-year contract with AC Milan that includes an option to extend for a second season if all parties agree. Milan quickly indicated they wanted to retain him. Modric's own intentions remained unclear and appeared likely to be resolved later in the season. He enjoys life in Milan, is performing well, and has helped make the team more competitive. Age and the World Cup factored into his considerations. A decision is expected in May. Milan's management continues efforts to persuade him, arguing Champions League qualification would provide a more competitive environment.
