GdS: Indications arrive on Milan's XI to face Cagliari with retreat set to begin
Massimiliano Allegri, in agreement with the club, has chosen another training camp ahead of the match against Cagliari, with a top-four finish requiring a win. After sleeping at Milanello for three nights before Genoa, the team will stay for two nights this time. Allegri will lead training after granting a day off, then evaluate the best lineup. Christopher Nkunku is expected to lead the attack as a second striker, with a center-forward role likely between Santiago Gimenez and Niclas Füllkrug, while Rafael Leao is also an option. Luka Modric will return in midfield with a protective mask, supported by Youssouf Fofana and Adrien Rabiot. The right flank is contested between Zachary Athekame and Alexis Saelemaekers, and Davide Bartesaghi is set to start on the left. Mike Maignan will play in goal behind Tomori, Gabbia, and Pavlovic.
"Allegri will lead training this morning, after the coach granted his players a day off yesterday. As the match against Cagliari approaches, Max will evaluate the best possible line-up to start. Christopher Nkunku - who scored in the last two games, both from penalties he won - is expected to lead the attack. With whom? Rafael Leao is back from a ban, Christian Pulisic showed positive signs at the Ferraris, Santiago Gimenez started the last two and Niclas Füllkrug is the most natural striker."
"The intention seems to be to use Nkunku as a second striker, therefore with a centre-forward alongside him. In this sense, the battle would come down to Gimenez and Füllkrug, although Leao has also often and willingly acted as a centre-forward. The manager will once again be able to count on a certainty in midfield: Luka Modric. The Croatian will play with a protective mask, hoping to lead the Rossoneri into the Champions League with his playmaking prowess."
"Youssouf Fofana and Adrien Rabiot are likely to line up alongside him. The right flank is a battle ground: Zachary Athekame, who scored against Genoa last Sunday, is the slight favourite over Alexis Saelemaekers, who like Leao will return from suspension. On the left Davide Bartesaghi will start, despite Pervis Estupinan's return. Mike Maignan will remain in goal, along with the defensive trio seen in Genoa: Fikayo Tomori, Matteo Gabbia and Strahinja Pavlovic."
"After last week's success, La Gazzetta dello Sport report that Massimiliano Allegri - in agreement with the club - has opted for another training camp ahead of the match against Cagliari. A win is needed to secure a top four spot, so there is no room for error. Before the match against Genoa last Sunday, the Rossoneri players slept at Milanello for three nights. This time, they'll only be staying for two, before the do-or-die game against the Sardinians."
