Florenzi names 'best player' during Milan's Scudetto season: "The secret ingredient"
"It was an incredible thing because it was truly a special year, as we also returned to playing in the Champions League that season. Everything started with us getting eliminated from the Champions League. We were still hanging on in the league; it was in January, February. We were three, two points behind the top team, which was Inter in this case."
"We put all our energy into the league and in the end, we had an amazing run. I think that was definitely one of the peaks of my career. As I like to say, the best player who helped us win the Scudetto was the group. Not Leao, not Hernandez, not Ibrahimovic, no Kjaer. It was a group that worked in the same direction and I think that's the secret ingredient to really winning something important."
Alessandro Florenzi joined AC Milan in summer and provided leadership and on-pitch contributions during the 2021–22 season. AC Milan returned to the Champions League and secured the Serie A title that campaign. The campaign regained focus after elimination from the Champions League, when the team trailed Inter by two or three points in January–February. The squad concentrated its energy on the league, produced an outstanding run, and ultimately won the Scudetto. Florenzi attributed the success to collective group unity rather than individual star performances. Florenzi retired at 34 after his contract expired, having enjoyed notable spells with Roma and Italy’s Euro 2021 victory.
