On both the right and left of the Labour party, one article of faith has always seemed to be set in stone: the idea that you can pursue progressive dreams using no end of skulduggery and nastiness, and never worry about the contradictions.Whether they have been Blairites, Brownites, disciples of Jeremy Corbyn or servants of Keir Starmer, a certain kind of Labour high-up has always thrived on a loathing and mistrust of their internal enemies, and a drive to seize control of the party machine.
But its got nothing to do with people trusting Labour to keep us out, and everything to do with them realising the Tories sold them a pack of lies regarding Brexit benefits.

Revealed: Labour won back swathes of Brexit voters in the local elections

Labour is making dramatic progress in winning back pro-Brexit voters across the country as the coalition of support for the Tories built by Boris Johnson collapses, according to detailed analysis of Thursday's local election results.Figures from the BBC's key wards data, obtained by the Observer, show support for Keir Starmer's party was up by seven points compared with 2021 in the most heavily pro-leave wards.
