Proposed bans on new oil boilers are being compared to the Ulez car ban in London, with concerns that rural communities will be disproportionately affected.
Former environment secretary George Eustice suggests expanding the supply of renewable liquid fuels as a more cost-effective solution to reducing carbon emissions, rather than introducing air-source heat pumps.
Eustice argues that the government should adopt different approaches to developing net-zero policies, rather than locking into specific technologies, in order to encourage innovation and avoid stifling other potential solutions.
