The Number Of US State Privacy Laws Is Close To Hitting Double-Digits

The US now has nine state privacy laws on the books.Here's a quick roll call for those who are keeping track: California, Virginia, Connecticut, Colorado, Utah, Iowa, Montana, Tennessee and Indiana all have privacy laws.On top of that, Washington state also just passed a specialized health data protection law in late April called the My Health, My Data Act.

Last week, I had the pleasure of hosting a panel at IAPP - International Association of Privacy Professionals' #GPS23 with the EDPS - European Data Protection Supervisor, Wojciech Wiewiorowski, MEP @Brando Benifei, co-rapporteur of the EU AI Act in the European Parliament, and Irene Roche Laguna, Deputy Head of Unit in DG CNECT, European Commission, to discuss about the EU's ambitions to reorder the digital economy and society through its Data Strategy legislative package (DMA, DSA, AI Act, Data Act, Data Governance Act etc.), and whether there is consistency within it, and together with the GDPR.
