NEW YORK -- The NBA saw its best Christmas Day viewership numbers in 15 years, the league announced Wednesday. More than 47 million people in the U.S. watched at least some of the five-game slate on ABC and ESPN, which represents a 45% increase over last year. And there was an average of 5.5 million viewers for the games, up 4% from a year ago.
The report The VAB looked at audience data spanning 33 broadcast and cable networks and six demographic audiences - specifically, HH (households), P2+ (persons over the age of 2), P18-34, P18-49, P25-54 and P55+ - as captured over a four week period from September 15 through October 12. According to the VAB, the data suggests that between 48% and 58% of total hours during that time had over a 20% audience variance across several key buying demographics.
"In 2026 the doors of the castle will be opened again to welcome celebrity players to the game to see who can charm, who can scheme and ultimately who can survive in series two which promises to be just as unmissable as the first," the BBC's head of entertainment, Kalpna Patel-Knight, said in a statement.
