The bill zeroes in on prediction market platforms that let users buy and sell positions on future events through a bid-ask system. Topics can range from elections to economic indicators. The legislation draws clear boundaries, explicitly excluding sports wagering, online casino gaming, internet games, and traditional securities or commodities trading already governed by existing law. If approved, the measure would make it illegal for any prediction market platform operating in Connecticut to allow a resident under 21 to register or open a speculative position.
On Thursday, the National Advertising Division (NAD) indicated that some of the language in the commercials and T-Mobile's press releases about the satellite connectivity were misleading. The advertising division-part of an ad industry self-regulation system-took up the case after rival carrier AT&T filed a complaint about T-Mobile's marketing. Some the language for T-Mobile's implementation of SpaceX's cellular Starlink, dubbed T-Satellite, implied it provided "100% coverage everywhere or everywhere the sky is visible," the regulator said.
On October 27, NAD ruled that the AT&T advertising and press release violated Section 2.1(I) of the NAD/National Advertising Review Board (NARB) procedures. That procedure was that NARB participants are "not to mischaracterize any decision, abstract, or press release issued or use and/or disseminate such decision, abstract or press release for advertising and/or promotional purposes." In other words, using the decisions as fodder for advertising or marketing is off limits.
