'Awesome sense of place': Settlement ends long-running Lake Tahoe development battle
Briefly

Palisades Tahoe ski resort reached a compromise after years of dispute, reducing its development project significantly. Initially proposed projects included 2,184 hotel and condo rooms, a water park, and extensive commercial space. After environmental concerns led to lawsuits and revisions, the final agreement approved 896 new rooms and 222,000 square feet of commercial space, while eliminating the water park and sky diving. The development will use parts of a large parking lot, which maintains Lake Tahoe's natural aesthetics and charm.
"We think it sets an example of how we can work together to protect the place we love," said Tom Mooers, executive director of Sierra Watch.
"People are still going to have the incredible experience when they turn off Highway 89 and see the beautiful meadows and the creek and the mountains."
