The Statue That Taught Me About the Power of Black Women and Democracy

My visit to Daytona Beach took place in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic... I had heard that it was magnificent, in a highly detailed, impressive, even haunting sort of way.
I wanted to learn something about what the residents of the town thought about the long and expensive process that led to their organizing across lines of race, geography, and class to honor their hometown daughter.
