My wife's labor lasted through the night. Around 6:00 A.M, I left the hospital and walked down the street to pick up two-dozen bagels, a tub of cream cheese, smoked salmon, and whitefish salad for the hospital staff who had been working tirelessly.
In late April, I got the news that my debut novel sold (Kaplan's Plot, coming soon from Flatiron Books). It was the biggest moment of my career. The book represented twenty years of learning and grinding, hustling and sweating.
