The lives of non-mothers: 'I really wanted a life without children and I wanted to know why'
Briefly

[There's the assumption] that you have no say in that solo life...if you find someone in their 40s or 50s and they're not married, people assume she couldn't find someone...if you're a spinster and happen to have a cat, you're a cat lady.
I love children. I adore playing with them. When my friends see me with their kids they go, 'Oh wow, you really love children!'
I had no examples of the life I was living at the time and it was scary. It felt a bit like walking in the dark. It took me a while to find women who are perfectly happy without children, who have found a lot of meaning.
