My New Job Required That I Make a Major Sacrifice. I Think It Was a Grave Mistake to Do It.
Briefly

I have a number of friends, colleagues, and acquaintances who make the mistake of equating salary with self-worth... But as you've learned, some things are more important than money. You traded your family and home life for a job and salary in your field of choice. And, you're miserable.
If your ego or the perceived judgment of others is primarily to blame, you'll be happy to know that nobody else truly cares about your profession or salary as much as you do.
In contemplating your options, it will be helpful if you can take a stoic perspective. First, define your happiness and success not with your salary, but with your relationships and personal well-being.
Remember that your salary is not an indicator of your value as a person but serves as compensation for the services you provide. Your willingness to work for a lower salary is not a reflection of you.
