Simply killing a child offscreen isn't enough. There's conservative wisdom in leaving Martin's most depraved descriptions of violence against children off the screen. HOTD fails to recreate the emotional agony and reckless cruelty from the original texts.
Without the intense torment and choices presented to Helaena in Martin's books, the show depicts violence as just another scene. The deviation from the source material weakens the impact of major moments.
