Experience: I woke up with a Welsh accent'
Briefly

In 2022, I developed functional neurological disorder (FND) and experienced a sudden change in accent to Welsh without any trigger, diagnosed as foreign accent syndrome, causing difficulties and emotional distress.
The sudden change in accent made the individual unrecognizable to family and caused concerns about clear communication with children's school in emergency situations, leading to personal explanations and challenges.
Foreign accent syndrome causes a person's accent to change suddenly, typically after a brain injury, and can lead to significant adjustments and emotional impacts in everyday life.
Accent changes due to foreign accent syndrome highlight the complexity and impact of health conditions on speech patterns, leading to challenges in recognition and communication even with close family members.
