Iran-related conflict has accelerated ties by increasing China’s reliance on Russian oil and gas after the Strait of Hormuz closure, while providing Russia funds for its war in Ukraine. Bilateral trade rose by nearly 20% in the first four months of the year. Energy cooperation is expected to expand, including potential progress on the Power of Siberia 2 pipeline and increased gas imports. Chinese technology exports also support Russia’s military industry, and both countries share a view of the US-led West as dangerous.
