Why I'm Not a "Woman in Tech"
Briefly

On average, only 25 percent of employees in professional computing jobs are held by women, and it can be intimidating for some women to be surrounded by peers who look, communicate and carry themselves differently from them. We still have a significant gender pay gap of 21 percent, and much of the discouragement girls feel when considering STEM careers starts early - and is deeply embedded in our culture.
But when I'm asked about, or hear people talking about, the general topic of 'women in tech,' I admittedly cringe a bit. It feels like I'm some kind of spectacle, like 'goats at school' or 'babies in a marathon.'
