One 25-year-old woman in Tehran described being accosted by police, pulled into a van, and physically assaulted for refusing to wear a hijab. She reflected on the Women, Life Freedom movement and the sacrifice of women during protests.
Following the death of Jina Mahsa Amini in 2022 due to being taken into custody for hijab violation, public unrest erupted in Iran. The UN reported 551 protesters killed during the subsequent forceful suppression by authorities.
