Charity's wellness sessions take to the road
Briefly

iCan Wellbeing charity has launched the 'wheels of wellness' van to bring fitness and wellbeing services to underserved areas before the establishment of Hope Haven in Whitehaven. This initiative, aiming to engage communities lacking transportation, has already seen successful sessions in Gosforth. Activities include walking football and mental health support, particularly targeting older women. The aim is to foster connection and accessibility, with partnerships from local organizations to address mental health, housing, and addiction in the community at the forthcoming Hope Haven hub.
"It's all about getting out into the community and speaking to people, especially in hard-to-reach places," Mr Stout said.
"We call the van the 'wheels of wellness' and it's very visual. It catches people's attention and they come and ask what we're doing."
"Many of the participants were women aged between 60 and 80, who Mr Stout said were keen to play football 'because they hadn't been allowed to years ago at school.'"
"This is just the very start of the wellbeing services we will offer and we're excited to see the impact it will have on our community."
