Minecraft-Inspired Sandbox Game Hytale Canceled After A Decade Of Development
Briefly

Riot Games and Hypixel Studios have announced the cancellation of the Hytale project, a decade in the making. Co-founder Aaron Donaghey revealed the news in a post, citing the inability to deliver on the game's ambitious vision as the primary reason for halting development. Despite initial enthusiasm and significant investment, the difficulties faced during the lengthy development process led to the decision to shut down Hypixel Studios. This marks the end of a project that had generated considerable anticipation within the gaming community.
This is not the outcome any of us - at Hypixel or at Riot - wanted. But after years of pushing forward, adapting, and exploring every possible path, it became clear we couldn't bring Hytale to life in a way that truly delivered on its promise.
Hytale was planned to be a Minecraft-like sandbox game that was more modder-friendly, incorporated more RPG elements, and featured numerous minigames for players to try out alongside the basic sandbox experience.
