Why you should *curate*, not create, a design system
Briefly

In software design, it's tempting to build every component from the ground up. Industry peer pressure can make you think that creating a bespoke system is the hallmark of innovation and technical prowess. But, in practice, this approach often leads to unnecessary complexity and inefficiency.
As a more specific example, consider Apple's displays. While Apple's specifications for display panels are high, the fundamental OLED or LCD technology is often sourced from companies like Samsung and LG. Could Apple create their own display tech? Sure. And they're actually planning to in the not-too-distant future. But by strategically curating from existing, proven vendors, it allowed the company to focus its creative efforts on other high impact areas (like their M Series chips) until they chose to intentionally tackle displays. This strategy amplifies, not hinders, their groundbreaking designs.
