Dark patterns are deceptive techniques designed to manipulate user behavior. There are at least 20 identified dark patterns ranging from mildly annoying to egregious, such as disguised ads, fake urgency, hard opt-out, hidden costs, and bad defaults.
Deceptive patterns cause annoyance, frustration, and anger, leaving people feeling manipulated. Ethical considerations are vital in UI design to ensure a positive user experience and avoid the negative impact of dark patterns.
