President Trump promised $2,000 for each American funded from tariff revenue his administration says it has collected. He claimed tariff receipts total "trillions of dollars," would help pay down the $37 trillion federal debt, and spur record investment and factory growth. The administration has imposed broad tariffs on countries and specific goods including drugs, steel and cars. Experts urged caution because projected tariff revenue is well below "trillions" annually and may be insufficient to fund $2,000 per person. The administration has not published payout plans, eligibility rules, or defined "high income," and a pending Supreme Court IEEPA decision could block future tariff authority and revenue.
