US not controlling Greenland 'unacceptable,' Trump says
"needs Greenland for the purpose of national security."
"NATO should be leading the way for us to get it. IF WE DON'T, RUSSIA OR CHINA WILL, AND THAT IS NOT GOING TO HAPPEN!"
"NATO becomes far more formidable and effective with Greenland in the hands of the UNITED STATES,"
"Anything less than that is unacceptable."
President Donald Trump repeatedly urged NATO to help the United States acquire Greenland, claiming the territory is needed for national security. He warned that Chinese and Russian ships threaten Greenland and Arctic waters, while providing no evidence for those claims. Trump also claimed much of the US military's 'vast power' was built during his first term, despite long-standing US military dominance since the Cold War. His insistence that Greenland become US territory has widened rifts with European allies. Denmark and Greenland officials said only the local population should decide Greenland's future, and Greenlanders have rejected joining the United States. Greenland's prime minister said residents prefer to remain part of Denmark. Vice President JD Vance was scheduled to host talks with Danish and Greenlandic foreign ministers on the matter.
