US District Judge William Young said he will soon issue an order to stop retaliation against academics who challenged the arrest, detention, and deportation of non-citizen pro-Palestinian activists on college campuses. Young previously ruled that the State Department and Department of Homeland Security violated the First Amendment by detaining and attempting to deport non-citizens based on their speech. Young accused two cabinet secretaries of conspiring to "pick off" targeted individuals despite professional warnings, saying the actions were intended to chill protected expression and that DHS intelligence showed how government mechanisms can be weaponized against a disfavored group.
