She continued, You know, in some of those cases, there were children in there. What do you want people to do? Open the door and say, come on in.' When they know that the Somali community is under attack, is being threatened every single day. What is going on here?"
"Quinn then said a big part of this is there is no need for President Donald Trump to say the horrible things he said about the Somali community, before going on to imply that the president's recent comments on Somalis could lead to violence. Quinn also said the president had attacked the entire community at a time when we've learned what happens when we keep turning up the rhetoric, as opposed to turning it down."

Some staff members shooed him away and told him he was not welcome. Phillip questioned the tactic of pressing to enter facilities when children might be present. Christine Quinn defended shelter rules against unauthorized visitors and connected President Trump's comments about Somalis and Rep. Ilhan Omar to increased threats. Quinn warned that inflammatory rhetoric against the Somali community can escalate into violence and said the entire community had been attacked by such rhetoric.
