By Instituting the Insurrection Act, Trump Has Launched an Attack on Our Civil Liberties
"If the corrupt politicians of Minnesota don't obey the law and stop the professional agitators and insurrectionists from attacking the Patriots of I.C.E., who are only trying to do their job, I will institute the INSURRECTION ACT, which many Presidents have done before me, and quickly put an end to the travesty that is taking place in that once great State. Thank you for your attention to this matter. President DJT."
"Let us be plain. Minneapolis is now an occupied city, as much as Paris or Prague once were. Armed and anonymous agents of the government are rousting people seemingly at random, abusing them when they do, demanding to see their papers, and shooting them in the face. On Wednesday night, after an ICE officer shot another resident, Minneapolis boiled over which, while understandable at this point, was just what the president needed to start waving the Insurrection Act around again."
President DJT threatened to invoke the Insurrection Act to confront protesters and what he characterized as attacks on ICE personnel in Minnesota. Minneapolis is described as effectively occupied by armed, anonymous federal agents who are reportedly rousting residents, demanding papers, abusing people, and shooting them. An ICE officer's shooting of a resident triggered large protests and unrest in the city. Minnesota and Illinois filed lawsuits seeking removal of federal agents from state streets. The ACLU filed on behalf of Minneapolis protesters, arguing that ordinary residents lawfully recorded and protested against what it calls a cruel, arbitrary, and unlawful immigration enforcement campaign. The lawsuits contend defendants cannot tolerate observation and recording.
