Caroline Kennedy, U.S. ambassador to Australia, stated: 'This is part of our continuing efforts to honor those who made the ultimate sacrifice.' The findings should help preserve the site as a memorial.
Vice Admiral Mark Hammond noted: 'The wreck was found using advanced robotic and autonomous systems,' showcasing the ongoing technological advancements in naval explorations.
The U.S.S. Edsall, at only 314 feet in length, was a fast destroyer capable of 35 knots but was caught off-guard by Japanese battleships in a crucial battle.
