Andrew Johansen, 34, was arraigned in New Bedford District Court on charges of motor vehicle homicide by OUI and negligence after a February 6 crash. He was also cited for a marked lane violation and possessing an open container of alcohol in a vehicle. Video evidence shows his vehicle backed up in traffic, passed into the opposite travel lane, then suddenly turned left and slid on ice while partially on the wrong side of the road, sending the vehicle onto the sidewalk. Two pedestrians, Mary Patzsensky, 70, and a 65-year-old woman, were struck; Patzsensky died and the other woman sustained minor injuries. Bail was set at $5,000 with GPS monitoring, a curfew, and an alcohol-free condition; the next court appearance is March 6.
