In 2016, New York was the first state to mandate lead testing in public schools. The issue of lead in school water has been widespread since the Flint crisis in 2014.
Despite the vulnerability of children to lead poisoning and the prevalent issue of aging infrastructure in schools, there is no national requirement for lead testing in schools and child-care facilities.
