When the university chancellor, Carol Christ, took the stage, boos erupted from some students, but cheers followed her remarks acknowledging those camping for almost three weeks at Berkeley's Sproul Plaza. They expressed concern for the violence in Gaza.
Dozens of students rose with signs and Palestinian flags chanting against occupation and for divestment. Despite interruptions warning of removal, some students continued their protest during the ceremony.
