Radioactive gas detected at HMP Dartmoor forces closure of 180 prison cells

Radon, an odourless and colourless gas, is produced by decaying radioactive materials in rocks and soils, and is responsible for around 1,000 lung cancer deaths a year.
The Labour Party criticized the Government's mismanagement of the prison estate and delay in addressing the radon gas issue, while Minister Edward Argar emphasized continual investments in ensuring prison safety.
