Independent Ireland secured 21 local council seats despite being in existence for just eight months. Independent TD Michael Collins, who set up the party, said his political grouping could still land a few more seats and is still in the mix in at least two of the three European constituencies.
It's a remarkable achievement and we had no resources just volunteers who went out there and talked to people about the issues facing them," he told the Irish Independent.
