Valve has announced its intent to support Asus ROG Ally and other rival handhelds with SteamOS, allowing third-party devices to run its Linux-based operating system.
Valve designer Lawrence Yang stated, 'The note about ROG Ally keys is related to third-party device support for SteamOS. The team is continuing to work on adding support for additional handhelds on SteamOS.'
Despite confirmation from Valve, it remains clear that rival companies like Asus will continue using Windows for their handhelds to maintain consistency and compatibility across various hardware configurations.
While Valve is progressing with SteamOS support, it is unlikely that we will see these other handhelds shipping with the OS right away, as discussions are still ongoing.
