The restart of the Three Mile Island reactor, the first in the US after a closure, is expected to increase the Pennsylvania grid's capacity by 835 megawatts and generate $16 billion for the state.
Joe Dominguez highlighted the safety reputation of the plant, stating that, 'Before it was prematurely shuttered due to poor economics, this plant was among the safest and most reliable nuclear plants on the grid.'
The reactivation will require substantial investments, encompassing refurbishment of systems and components, alongside a thorough safety review from the US Nuclear Regulatory Commission prior to operation in 2028.
