CTIA’s 2024 Annual Wireless Industry Survey reveals that Americans consumed a record 100.1 trillion megabytes of wireless data in 2023, marking a 36% increase from 2022.
The study illustrates that the wireless industry is increasingly vital, with 39% of devices now utilizing 5G connections, a significant rise from just 3% in 2020.
Remarkably, while wireless data consumption surges, costs are falling; the average per-megabyte price has decreased 50% since 2020, contrasting sharply with rising prices in other sectors.
CTIA underscores that over the last few years, the wireless sector has become the second-largest investor in the U.S. economy, pouring $30 billion into infrastructure enhancements last year.
