40 Years Later, Microsoft Finally Adds Spell Check To Notepad
Briefly

Microsoft is rolling out an update for Notepad to all Windows 11 users that adds familiar red squiggly lines under misspelled words inside text docs. Users can click to see the correctly spelled version and fix typos.
Notepad, a free text editor launched in 1983 as an alternative to Microsoft Word, is not becoming a full word processor. The spell check feature is a long-awaited addition for users.
Microsoft's decision to add the spell check feature in the new Notepad version for Windows 11 is seen as an incentive to encourage users to switch from Windows 10 to Windows 11.
WordPad, a word processor between Notepad and Word, is anticipated to be removed from Windows 11 in a future update, possibly in September or October. The move may explain the focus on improving Notepad.
