UAE Team Emirates will maintain Adam Yates' protected rider status at the Vuelta a España despite his time loss, citing extreme heat as the main challenge.
Team manager Joxean Fernández Matxin emphasized that it was too early to alter Yates' role, highlighting the team's need for a two-pronged attack strategy.
Matxin explained Adam's struggles on the course due to extreme heat, stating that racing at 42-43 degrees for three hours was tough for all riders.
Despite Yates finishing more than 90 seconds down on the stage, Matxin expressed confidence in his leg strength, asserting, 'he's got good legs.'
