This Laid-back Brazilian Island Is the Next Big Destination for Remote Workers-and It Has Some of the Country's Most Beautiful Beaches
"Even though Rio is surrounded by nature and you have very easy access to it, you need to go a little further to be in that completely-isolated-from-society type of nature, where you can really, really calm down,"
"I feel like being in Floripa puts you in a place where you finally permit yourself to be creative with your life and your desires-where you feel like anything is possible,"
Florianópolis, a leafy island in Brazil’s South Region, is attracting an increasing number of remote workers from Rio de Janeiro and São Paulo. The island offers safe, accessible living connected to the mainland by bridge, dozens of beaches with year-round surf, and rolling green mountains. Cooler, rainy winters contrast with a laid-back, California-like coastal vibe. About 5,600 digital nomads have based themselves there this year, a 224 percent increase since 2018, and DashCity ranks it as the world’s second fastest-growing remote-worker destination. A burgeoning tech scene and designation as Brazil’s Startup Capital are drawing both short-term nomads and more permanent movers.
