"Scientists have really embraced this AI era. Agents are wonderful, but we are still far from a place where we understand how to use them effectively."
"The boom in AI-related science papers is not surprising, with the subcategory of physical sciences having the largest number of publications that mention AI."
From 2010 to 2025, the number of natural science publications mentioning artificial intelligence increased almost 30-fold. The proportion of these publications ranges from 6% to 9% across various fields. The report highlights the emergence of science foundation models trained on extensive datasets. While many researchers utilize AI agents for scientific workflows, their performance remains limited, scoring significantly lower than human specialists.
