Dinosaur footprints from 166 million years ago discovered in UK quarry
"Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging. At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story."
"The most extensive dinosaur trackways ever discovered in Europe have been uncovered at an Oxfordshire quarry, stunning palaeontologists, who have gained new insights into how dinosaurs moved through the landscape. An astonishing 220-metre trail left by enormous sauropod dinosaurs herbivorous four-legged animals with long necks and tails was found at Dewars Farm Quarry, near Bicester, during work to remove limestone."
The Independent seeks donations to fund on-the-ground reporting across issues from reproductive rights to climate change and Big Tech while keeping reporting free of paywalls. A major palaeontological find at Dewars Farm Quarry in Oxfordshire revealed the most extensive dinosaur trackways discovered in Europe, including a 220-metre trail left by enormous sauropods. The tracks are attributed to Cetiosaurus, a sauropod about 16 metres long dating to roughly 171–165 million years ago, and include hundreds of footprints plus rarer three-toed prints likely from meat-eating megalosaurs. The work is led by the Oxford University Museum of Natural History and the University of Birmingham and has been ongoing since 2022.
