Roki Sasaki is a highly talented pitcher in NPB, but cannot play in MLB until the Chiba Lotte Marines agree to post him and they are unlikely to do so.
With nine years required in Japan before international free agency, Sasaki's options are limited unless the Marines cooperate, which they might be unwilling to do.
Sasaki's relationship with the Marines has been damaged after they declined his posting request, making it unclear if they will agree to another request this offseason.
The Chiba Lotte Marines face no strong incentive to post Sasaki; retaining him until he is older may be more beneficial under MLB's bonus pool rules.
